So yesterday i went and met aunt nancy, a relative from my mom's side, who's an air stewardess and happened to fly into NYC for the weekend. Brought some stuff for her to bring back to good old singapore... so here's hoping my suitcases won't be overweight anymore :)
It was kinda weird, meeting up here, when at home i've never really talked to her much. but she was nice and all.. she told me she didn't know anything that goes on in me and my brother's lives (and vice versa)... which i thought was kinda sad. i guess sometimes family doesn't mean closeness. but it was good to catch up. she told me tales of demanding caucasian people in airplanes.. swine flu alert.. and how she and her crew get to stay in grand hotels now that the economy is bad. ironic.
Nature and wilderness
We walked along 5th Avenue.. she snapped pictures of everything possible (for her nephew). And then we took a stroll in Central Park, with my pizza pretzel and her hot dog bun, and admired the park, which was SO beautiful. it was just refreshing to 'get out' of the city and breathe in the gorgeous fresh air in the park. Just being surrounded by trees, grass, happy little kids, people tanning in the sun... so totally summer :)
We walked by the Central Park Zoo (think Madagascar! haha), which smothered us in stinky animal smells... met this adorable group of little kiddies on a school field trip (altogether now, awwwwww!)... sat and listened to the melodious sounds of random bands playing in the park... so soothing and relaxing. i love love love central park.

one of the group of musicians we saw busking in the park. reminded me of that one time when i made the comment, 'how come people in other countries can do busking for fun and make money, but the only people who do busking in singapore are handicapped people, without legs, without arms, blind or deaf?' haha. (so true, right??)

Had a mini photo shoot when we met this girl from HK.. attempted to capture the beauty of the park, but didn't really succeed. haha. then i walked with her to Times Square where she met her friend, and i went to meet carly (my friend from school) back at Union Square!!
Reunion
Sort of. i guess we haven't seen each other since... the end of may. haha. so it's been a few weeks. but i love carly, she's awesome :)
(Plus i didn't wanna go back to my room. both my suitemates have been sick, so i'm trying to avoid them.)
We went shoe shopping for her work shoes at DSW, met her mom, who was wonderfully sweet and nice... then i wanted to introduce her to bubble tea, so we headed down 3rd avenue.
Upon reaching the bbtea shop, i excitedly turned to carly and was about to tell her all about the wonderful world of bubbles/pearls, when this burly, freakishly huge, intimidating policeman BURST into the shop and began yelling and shrieking. he demanded the owners to close the place down immediately, because apparently they haven't been paying rent. the open-mouthed gaping look on their faces was priceless. and i would've found the situation hilarious, if not for the fact that i was tremendously upset at being denied my bubble tea!!! but the policeman was determined to chase away every single customer, so we headed to Pinkberry (the Obama kids' fav frozen yogurt place) instead.
Upper East Side
I realized that carly lives in the UPPER EAST SIDE!!!! where all the rich and glamorous live!! so jealous. we went back to Central Park in an effort to find robert pattison, who was filming a movie called 'remember me' on 5th ave somewhere in central park. but we failed, sadly enough. i don't actually care much for him, but it would've been cool to see a movie being filmed. oh well! (still determined to stalk gossip girl shoots. apparently they've begun filming on tues a few streets from my place! but stupid work is getting in the way of me finding them!)
Anw since central park is crazy huge, we walked uptown toward the lake, and saw a beautiful bridge, a fun carnival, playgrounds filled with joyful children, and even baseball fields. so we sat and licked our ice cream and chatted for the longest time as carly attempted to explain the rules of baseball to me. finally she gave up and we just talked.... about life.

I got to see the place she used to work at and is going to work at this summer.. it's a restaurant in times square called 'Juniors' and it looked pretty quaint and cool, like an all-american diner style place.
Then we headed back to her place! it was an apartment in a cute little neighborhood, not as ritzy as the filthy rich, but really cozy and comfy all the same :)
(Now i have a new goal in life - to move to NYC and live in an apartment like this!!!)
it was totally refreshing to actually be at someone's house for once and have them stuff me with food, instead of being at the dorm all the time. and to watch tv, oh TV, how i've missed thee. we watched disney channel. hahahhaa. and played with her cute little tiny dog. awww it was so nice to feel at home again :) and her family was awesome.
She took me to see the rich neighborhood, a few blocks up from her, and although they all look the same on the outside, like normal apartment buildings, the inside looked like HOTELS. from what we could see as we peeked in, there were guards and concierges and chandeliers and the place was just reeking of money.
And then i headed back and watched the midnight showing of 'The Hangover' with rachel. it was.... inappropriately hilarious. haha. definitely earned its R rating.
Boredom
So bored at work today. 7 more days and counting (to freedom)!!!
but one thing happened today: my manager told me she's bringing me to a PR company's exclusive party where they give out TONS of free stuff, and its way better than all the free stuff we've been getting!!! I'M SO EXCITED! it's on my last day of work. CAN'T WAIT!
Top of the Rock
Went with a bunch of people to the top of the Rockefeller center in the evening. we had a view of the entire NYC brightly lit up, and it was gorgeous. saw times square, central park, the empire state building, the chrysler building, brooklyn bridge.... it was soooo beautiful. but my legs were a little wobbly from being up so high.

they had these weird crystals encased in the walls throughout the building, and it just reminded me of the rock planet lex luther tried to create in 'superman returns'

And then... KARAOKE the night away at a bar in times square!!! once again, the entire bar could hear us shrieking to songs. and this bar was more high-end than the other one we went to. but we didn't really care. haha. and we kinda forgot about the time so it's late now and i have to go to work tomorrow but i really don't want to but i guess i'll go. haha.
