where is the love

today i heard of racist incidents happening right here at taylor in upland, indiana. it shocked me. mostly prejudiced actions against africans/african americans, and they were pretty mean. it upset me. what the heck is wrong with these people? how can they claim to be christians and yet discriminate against their own brother/sister in Christ? how they can even treat someone this way just baffles me. i'm pretty sure the love of God isn't in them. it's just upsetting to hear of such stuff occurring even in a Christian community. why can't we all just get along and be united as one in Christ? i never had to deal with ethnicity and the church before, but i can see it's a huge issue in the States. some people are just so ignorant and horrid.

today for leadership class we had an exercise. it was pretty intense. we were split up into 4 groups, and each grp had to build a community of their own without crossing the boundary to the next. no communication was allowed, so we pretty much kept to ourselves and focused on constructing our community out of cardboard boxes. at first it was fun, building our little home, school, mall and hospital. but things got heated up when the sheriffs and housing inspector pulled down our buildings due to unreasonable and irrational reasons. people wanted to rebel and riot and get back at the mean government. some pple got really mad even though it was just an exercise. intense!

i laughed through it all. pple were really funny. getting themselves thrown into 'jail' and rebelling against the govt..becoming outcasts n all. haha. we had our own roles, and i was the teacher/shop owner. our very own 'pastor' + night watch director and hospital chaplain abandoned us n joined the rebellion. haha. my grp was hilarious. we decided to have a prayer meeting in the midst of everyone else rioting in hopes that the housing inspector would return our houses to us. haha.

anw..the point was to see how different groups reacted to different situations. my group had a pretty huge space, lots of money and materials to build our community. but the govt kept taking away stuff from us and giving to the privileged group. they had anything they wanted because the govt was biased in their favor. the other 2 groups were pretty much poor and living in the 'slumps', and so alot of them rebelled. i guess the point was that life is unfair, but we just gotta deal and overcome struggles keeping in mind to do what Jesus would do.
